Break through with your old bras....

October is Breast cancer awareness month and as you already know I was asked to teach at the Golborne Scrappers Pink Booby 5 crop in aid of Breast Cancer Research.

It was a fabulous event and very well organised by a voluntary committee of 5 people - Dawn Cheshire, Rachel Taylor, Ally Whittaker, Sonja Broad and Leanne Weaver, pictured below

The total figure raised has yet to be announced but a little bird tells me its the most money they have raised so far!!!

I taught an altered domino necklace class at 1 am!!!!

Yes, I managed to stay awake, but not for thefull 24 hours - I gave in at about 3.30 am LOL :D

As part of the event the ladies asked everyone to donate old bras, in any condition to be collected by the local Soroptimist group.

Depending on the condition of the bra decides its destination - some are sent direct to Africa, some are recycled and the really bad ones are taken apart by the ladies in Africa to create their own bras.

‎215 bras collected ... 12.5 kg weight ... filled ONE complete recycling bag and a layer on the 2nd bag. The bras are destined for African ladies eventually and they are guaranteed complete safety from rape. When the ladies are wearing a ...bra, it means they are being "looked after" and cannot be "touched"

You may see bra banks in your local community, in shops or public meeting places. I know for definite there is one in Debenhams and I have seen one in my local gym.

Please support them by taking your unwanted bras in any condition as they will all be put to good use

We all know somebody or have been affected yourself by breast cancer so please give generously and support your local events to raise money for this very worthy cause.

I was very proud to be asked to support this and hopefully helped to raise lots of funds.

A canvas wall hanging.......

created for Octobers Vanilla Sugar project :DI started by painting the canvas with a cream acrylic paint as a base.
I then mixed a spritz of Victoran distress re-inker with water and sprayed around the edges and through a prima mask on to the front of the canvas.
I then sponged on the inka gold in graphite through the mask with a sponge and continued round the edges of the canvas.
Next I sponged on some versamark ink in the top corner and sprinkled on some utee, which I then heated. I love texture on my work, and this gives a lovely glossy raised area on the canvas
I cut out the images from Graphic 45 Le Romantique and glued them down then highlighted with rock candy distress stickles, carefully smeared on (NOT!!!! LOL)
I spritzed some gorgeous Prima flowers with the ink then stuck them down with glossy accents.
I added some lace, TimHoltz ticket and memo pin and a metal butterfly from my stash.
I stamped and inked the edges with coffee archival ink.

I have had a few peeps posting about my Faux dichroic glass technique who haven't spotted my tutorial - if you go back a post HERE I show you how to do it step by step :D

Dichroic flowers....

Ok, so did you have a go at my technique last week??

Well here's another project I created for Bubbly Scrumptious to try and tempt you

Sometimes I think its hard when you see a technique to picture how you could use it in your crafting so I do like to play and see what I can come up with :D

And yes Katy, I love getting messy LOL :D

So,I started with a letter O chippie which I covered in the faux dichroic glass and was going to make it in to a mini frame. Then I spotted my Tim Holtz tattered florals die and it went in a whole new direction LOL!!!!

I chopped the O in half to give me a crescent shape and rounded the edges I had cut with scissors.

I punched a hole with my big bite at either end and one at the bottom centre and attached my dangley :D ( a chandelier drop)

I cut out the flowers from chipboard and bent them in to shape to create some dimension. I coloured the reverse with inka gold

I did the faux dichroic glass using salmon pink, wild plum and cranberry alcohol inks and sprinkled in some gold utee.

I stuck them on to the crescent with glossy accents and added prima say it with crystal centres

I painted the back of the large chandelier drop with the croco, and inks and uteed it to seal.

Then added the jewellery findings which came from a cheap necklace from Primark :D

at last my Faux Dichroic Glass technique :D

Ok I have teased you long enough so here it is :D

I am so excited to share this with you all :D

I have been experimenting over the weekend and I genuinely "think" I have invented a new technique to make faux dichroic glass. I apologise if anybody has beaten me to this but didn't we do well LOL :D

I love the lustre of the real thing and the colour changes in the depth.

You can use a melt pot for this technique but I have used my heat gun as most people have them.

Most of the supplies are available from Bubbly Funk

Supplies needed

Viva decor croco paint in platinum or gold

Ranger alcohol inks (2 to 3 colours work well)

heat gun

versamark inkpad

clear utee

glitter if desired

heat proof mat

I used Viva decor croco in platinum and gold as they are nice light colours and take the colours well.

I have used this on different surfaces such as chipboard, a resin domino and a Tim Holtz fragment so far.

Technique

spread your chosen colour of croco paint on to your surface thickly with a palette and either leave to dry naturally or give it a hand with your heat gun. in my examples below the heart is fried with my heat gun and the oval dried naturally - you can see there is a huge difference in the result so it depends what look you want (and how patient you are LOL :D ).

next drop your chosen alcohol inks randomly over the shapes - as mentioned two to three colours gives a lovely effect and it looks nice if you don't colour completely.

When its dry squish it down in your versamark pad until its completely coated

completely cover in the utee (ultra thick embossing enamel)

Shake off the excess, being careful not to remove any from the surface and place on your heatproof mat

Heat with your gun until completely melted

While its hot sprinkle in more utee, but don't overload as it will just blow away when you put your heat gun on to it.

Keep adding more until you have a lovely thick domed effect. you can add glitter or metal flakes in as you go if you wish.

Don't use stickles in between layers as the glue reacts with the utee and bubbles like mad!!!

You can use utee coloured with alcohol inks as I describe on my blog HERE to add more depth to your piece.

leave to cool then oohhh and aahhhhh at the pretty effect :D

You can punch it with a cropadile, and if your not happy with it you can keep melting the utee - it will eventually slide off to a thin layer LOL :D

At the end scrape all your melted excess off and keep in a pot for using again :D

This so effective and addictive please give it a try :D

I have been experimenting

..........and I think I may have created a new technique for creating faux Dichoric glass :D

I have to say its incredibly hard to photgraph and get a good shot of the gorgeous lustre that shines through!!!
Check back later in the week and I will tell you exactly how I did this and you can all shout at me that you have heard it all before LOL :D
I have seen it made with polymer clay and fusible film,but not my method so far ;-)

She has now gone to live with Gillian as part of an altered bottle swap on zuzus forum :Ddon't sayI didn't warn you LMAO :D

Look at all the yunmy texture :D
it started life as a £1.99 bottle of bath salts, then inked, waxed mosaiced with broken dolly faces, TH distress embossed, drippy waxed, inka golded etc......
Molly was reborn :D

Memories of Annalee

This is a dual purpose project today :D

Its this weeks Bubbly Scrumptious project plus I used lots of layering to comply with the Simon says stamp and show challenge this week - two birds with one stone LOL :D

Some of you may not know this but.......... I have a Prima Obsession!!!!

So how over the moon was I when Caroline sent me some of the gorgeous new Annalee range :D

Combine that with a page from a Maya Road Chipboard skinny house and this is what you get :D

First I covered a Bubbalicious chip key with the pink paper from the 6x6 paper pad.

I then covered the house in the blue paper with the floral corners and cut out the other floral corner to layer over the top to add dimension.

Before I did this, I stamped the fairy flora girl in black archival ink by sweeping it over the stamp rather than dabbing to give softer image. I then used a light blue promarker to highlight the shadows on the stamped image.

I then added the floral corner on 3D foam pads.

I cut out a roof from chipboard to match the one on the house then covered it with one of the borders from the paper pad. I raised this even further by sticking it down with 3D foam pads.

I covered a chipboard heart and tag and stamped them with prima stamps

Next I added some Prima craftables flowers and added centres with Viva decor paper pen in cobalt blue and added few of the crystals from the Prima mini stamp packs.

I decided my key looked a bit plain so stamped it with the swiping of ink randomly with the stamps I had already used

Lastly I punched holes in the roof and the key and threaded through ribbon to suspend it, the added a piece of lace to the key to form a hanging loop.

I adore the prima mini stamps and find them really useful in my altered dominoes and they are just such flipping good value!!!
